What does the W10348269 drain pump do?

This pump assembly combines a motor with a wash impeller and a drain impeller. The wash impeller pushes water through the spray arm during the wash portion of the cycle, and the drain impeller ejects wastewater out through the drain port at the end of the cycle — the same motor drives both functions.

Common symptoms of a failing drain pump

A dishwasher may fail to drain, leaving standing water in the bottom of the tub at the end of a cycle. It may also make no sound at all during the drain phase (the motor not energizing), or it may make grinding, buzzing, or humming noises during the drain phase (the motor running but the impeller obstructed or its bearing worn). Draining may also be slow or only partial.

How to check the W10348269 drain pump

With the dishwasher unplugged, the pump motor's terminals can be tested for continuity with a multimeter set to resistance — a reading of zero or near-zero ohms indicates the motor winding is intact, while no continuity (open circuit) indicates a failed winding. A pump that passes a continuity check is not automatically proven good: if the wiring is confirmed sound and the pump has continuity, the fault may actually be upstream (for example, the control board not switching power to the pump), and continuity testing will not catch a mechanically seized or clogged impeller.
